This silver replica of the Byzantine warship “Dromonas” is an impressive representation of one of the most characteristic ships of the Middle Ages. The model, detailed in silver leaf, captures the unique features of the Dromona, such as her sails and oars, and is mounted on a wooden base, protected by a plexiglass cover, measuring 37X14X29cm.
Dromonas was one of the most important warships of the Byzantine Empire, especially during the years 600-1200 AD. It was used in naval battles and was known for its speed, manoeuvrability and ability to launch its fiery ‘liquid fire’, being a key element of the Empire’s maritime defence.
It was a key component of the ship’s military power and a vital part of the military arsenal.
